How to Wash and Care For Lingerie with Roux Maison

Special care is required to keep the delicate fabrics in bras and lingerie looking their best and lasting as long as possible. Such items require a delicate laundry detergent, which provides improved results and increased longevity for even the most fragile washables. Because these items are an investment, we usually hang onto them for a while, and a little extra care will keep them as good as new.

For best results, either hand wash or launder these items on your machine’s most gentle cycle and use an extremely mild natural laundry detergent, like Roux Maison Delicate Detergent. Many leading-brand detergents have chemicals that can break down the fibers of fabrics, particularly delicate ones. They also leave chemical residue behind that will prematurely degrade these delicate items. Roux Maison delicate detergent does not leave any chemical residue behind and removes any residue left by other detergents.

In addition to using the correct detergent, it is very important when laundering your bras, lingerie and undergarments to separate them from heavier items, which may be abrasive to more delicate fabrics and damage them in the wash. Always fasten any and all hooks on bras and lingerie prior to laundering. Doing this will help prevent your garments from catching and pulling on themselves or each other.

For your most fragile items, it is always safest to hand wash them. Fill your sink or a bucket with cool water and add anywhere from a few drops to an entire capful of your favorite scent of Roux Maison Delicate Detergent, depending upon how many items you are washing.

Then, swish the items gently without wringing or pulling them. Allow them to soak for at least 15-30 minutes up to several hours, then rinse with cool water until it is clear and all of the bubbles are gone. Be careful not to squeeze or wring these delicate items when removing them from the water. Instead, lay your garments flat on a clean, dry towel and then roll them up to absorb most of the water. You can then either hang them up or lay them flat to dry.

If you choose to wash your delicates in a washing machine, always launder on your machine’s most gentle cycle.  Use Roux Maison Delicate Detergent for lace, shapewear and other delicate fabrics. Cotton and synthetic blends may be washed using either Roux Maison Delicate or Essential Detergent. If your machine does not have a hand wash or gentle cycle, avoid the machine altogether. The agitation and abrasion from the machine can be harmful to these fabrics. Avoid putting your delicate items in the dryer, as the heat and tumbling can also harm your lingerie and cause unnecessary wear.

To store, fold your lingerie and keep in a drawer. Always make sure the hooks are fastened on your garments so they do not catch, and try not to pack them too tightly. For bras, it is best not to fasten the hooks and to lay them flat in a drawer, which will help them maintain their shape.

These easy steps will become second nature after trying them just once. All of your fine washables will look so good and last so long that you will wonder how it took you so long to discover these simple steps to lovely, long-lasting lingerie!
